New Collective Bargaining Agreement Between NAGE and the Metropolitan Sewer District

Through the hard work of Joseph Smith, President NAGE Local R5-189, Mark Bailey, Chief Negotiator, NAGE Federal Division, and the negotiation team, the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) between NAGE and the Metropolitan Sewer District in Louisville, Kentucky, was fully ratified.

The CBA between the two parties was last negotiated in 2012. During negotiations for the new CBA, President Smith and Mr. Bailey were able to secure many new benefits for employees, most notably, salary increases, adjustment to vacation, provisions concerning job elimination and on call pay. Changes to the grievance and arbitration process were also negotiated.

When speaking with President Smith, he said, “We had a good team that put in a lot of time and hard work before the start of negotiations, so we were really prepared. The company had a good group as well, so there was mutual respect across the table, which made negotiations go smoothly”.

The ratified CBA received an 84 percent approval rating from those members who participated. It goes into effect on February 28, 2017 and will remain in effect until 2022.
