NAGE Members and Staff Assist in Playground Build

On Friday, March 31, 2017, NAGE President David Holway, along with NAGE staff and NAGE members, lent a hand to the Where Angels Play foundation as they constructed a playground in Dorchester, MA.  This playground was built in honor of Victoria McGrath, a survivor of the Boston marathon bombing who tragically lost her life in a car accident in Dubai.

While the forecast of snow wasn’t ideal for construction work, the crew began work early to ensure that the playground would be completed.  The playground was built at the Boys and Girls Club of Dorchester.  Beyond the structure, decorative tiles painted by friends and family of Victoria will adorn the space.  Some friends spent time reminiscing about Victoria while painting, “We only had her for a few years but they were a great few years.  Anything associated with Victoria brings positivity and we are very excited for this playground.”  Several of these friendships were forged through support groups for survivors after the bombing.

Where Angels Play foundation was created after founder and NAGE Executive Board Member Bill Lavin had the idea to honor the 26 Sandy Hook victims.  Playgrounds were built in their memories, in areas that had been devastated by Hurricane Sandy.  The mission of Where Angels Play is “To create joyful places to play. To provide hope, recovery, and to "pay it forward" in supporting projects that reflect a return to family values across the nation. To be the light that comes after the darkness of tragedy. To bring people together in the spirit of community and love.”
