NAGE Members Stand Up for Veterans' Safety

Two top management officials at the Manchester Veterans Affairs Medical Center (Manchester VAMC) in Manchester, NH, have been removed from their positions pending the outcome of an investigation which stemmed from claims by NAGE bargaining unit members alleging poor patient care and unsafe conditions which put our nation’s veterans at risk each day.
On July 15, 2017, the Boston Globe reported that NAGE bargaining unit members including 11 physicians and medical staff employees at the Manchester VA, contacted the U.S. Office of Special Counsel alleging that the medical center, a four star ranked facility, has been ignoring the safety concerns for a number of years. They claimed that upper management was more concerned with performance ratings than the level of care that veterans receive while visiting the hospital.
"It concerns me that the problems have gone on for so long with management continuing to turn a blind eye,” said NAGE National President David J. Holway. “I would like to commend the employees, who stood up for the safety of our nation’s veterans. Without their courageous efforts, the safety of many patients would continue to be at risk. I hope the VA will take any similar employee concerns more seriously in the future. ”
President Holway goes on to state “Another major concern is the VA four star ranking of this facility. The facility obviously fails to meet the four star performance standards, yet local management was given a clean bill of health by a recent cover-up VA investigation.  It seems to me that there is corruption at the highest levels of the VA.”
