NAGE Hosts Training for Local Union Officials

NAGE Federal/Municipal Division held a two-day union leadership training for local officials located in the southeastern region on October 11-12, 2017. Union officials from the Army and Air Force Exchange Services, Naval Exchange, Defense Commissary Agency, Department of Veterans Affairs, and Department of Defense, participated in the training located in Norfolk, VA.

The training, led by National Representative, Janice Blackwell, included topics such as grievance handling, contract negotiations, impact and implementation bargaining, unfair Labor Practices (ULP), and Duty of Fair Representation (DFR). Also in attendance were NAGE National Representative Ethan West and United Benefits Specialist Jeremy Byers, who spoke about importance of membership growth and retention. They also and provided local leaders with important member benefit information to take back to their locals. When asked about his thoughts on the training, Ethan West stated, “It was great to see so many of our locals come out and participate in this important training. Developing the skills provided in these sessions is crucial to leading a successful local and growing it for the future.”

This is one of the many training opportunities given throughout the year to develop the skills and abilities of our local leaders to strengthen our union. NAGE plans to offer more training sessions like these in the coming months. Be on the lookout for training near you.
