Member Becomes State Representative for Middlesex District

Congratulations to Steve Ultrino, Malden’s Ward 2 City Councilor and member of Middlesex County Local 57, who recently became the state representative for the 33rd Middlesex District. Ultrino currently serves as the director of education for the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office, where he works to educate and retrain inmates and help them become productive members of society upon their release and reduce their chances of returning to custody.

Ultrino has established several community goals in helping move Malden forward. Not only is he fighting for all Massachusetts workers to be paid a sustainable living wage, but he is committed to fighting for equal pay for women and securing funding for public safety officials.   He has fought hard for the right of Malden children to receive the highest quality instruction and also secured millions of dollars of infrastructure improvement for his ward.

Ultrino is a graduate of Malden Catholic High School. He earned his B.A. in U.S. History and Secondary Education from Suffolk University, a M.S. in Adult and Organizational Learning from Suffolk University, a C.A.G.S. in Educational Leadership from Emmanuel College, and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and Governance from Nova Southeastern University. Ultrino went on to teach business and economics at Malden Catholic High School and was principal and business manager at St. Mary’s Parish in Winchester.

In his community, Ultrino has served sixteen years as President of the St. Rocco Society and seven years as a board member and past Chairman of the Malden YMCA. Not only was he recognized across the Commonwealth for his service and doctoral research in 2013, but he is a lifetime member of the Massachusetts Association of School Committees.

Once again, congratulations from NAGE and the community of Malden will be proud to have you!
