Local 533 Walks for First Responders Mental Health

Local 533 raised money and walked in the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) 5K walk on Saturday, September 28th.

Local 533, typically known for their work serving the community of Lee County, Florida, walked with NAMI, an organization whose mission is to raise awareness and funds for the fight to end the stigma and encourage understanding regarding mental health.

“It’s important that everyone takes mental health and mental illness seriously” says National Director Philip Petit “our first responders are often too proud to come forward about their own struggles with mental health issues, but locals speaking up and having the voice of advocacy is the first step in bettering all of our communities.”

According to Local officials, the event had an outstanding turnout and 533 even surpassed their fundraising goal.
