"Police officers from the Richmond Police Dept. donated $5,000 to the American Red Cross in an effort to help those impacted by Hurricane Harvey.

Richmond’s Local 425 of the International Brotherhood of Police Officers took money from the union's charitable fund and donated it to the nonprofit after researching the many charitable drives that have been formed in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.

The union contacted the Houston Police Dept. and learned that more than 200 police officers were directly impacted by the hurricane. Many of those officers' homes were lost and damaged by the flood waters, according to Richmond police.

Chief Elwood Johnson said he was proud of the officers' generous donation and effort to help those in dire need."
