Help Ease Impact of Increased Co-pays and Deductibles!

Dear NAGE Member:
As you know, earlier this year the Group Insurance Commission voted to increase co-pays and deductibles for GIC health plans.  These increases were loudly opposed by our commissioners, Bobbi Kaplan and Margaret Thompson, and the other labor representatives.  The changes are slated to go into effect this coming July and will disproportionately impact the most vulnerable members of the system – those who are sick or dealing with chronic medical conditions.
In an attempt to ease the impact of the states continued cost shifting, Representative Paul Mark, working alongside NAGE and other public sector unions, has agreed to file an amendment that would statutorily cap yearly out-of-pocket expenses at $2,500 for individuals and $5,000 for families. If passed, this would mean the most an individual or family would have to pay out of pocket annually would be $2,500 and $5,000 respectively.
As healthcare costs continue to skyrocket, Representative Mark’s amendment is an important tool to begin addressing the unfair shifting of plan cost and the disproportionate impact that it is having on our most vulnerable members.  Please take a moment to contact your House Representative today and ask that they sign on and support Representative Mark’s amendment.
