FY18 Health Insurance Plans Approved

At the March 1 GIC Commission meeting, the final changes to the FY18 health insurance plans were approved. Premium increases will range from 1% for Harvard Independence to 8.2% for Neighborhood Health Plan. These increases are in addition to the recent changes in deductibles and copays. There are also increases for municipal employees and retirees.

Unfortunately of the 17 commissioners, only 5 commissioners represent union members from different state unions and one represents retired members. Both SEIU/NAGE Commissioner Margaret Thompson and NAGE Commissioner Bobbi Kaplan have consistently fought against shifting health care costs
NAGE recently applauded Governor Baker’s decision to hold off on increasing some state employees’ health care contributions by 5 percent, a measure he has proposed in recent years. Please remember to check for the latest news effecting your healthcare.
