NAGE/IBPO is in support of legislation which will result in all federal employees receiving a 3.2% pay increase in 2018. The Federal Adjustment of Income Rates (FAIR) Act of 2017 (S. 255), introduced by Senator Brian Schatz (D-HI), serves as a remedy for federal employees having suffered through six years of furloughs, sequestration, pay freezes, and attacks on benefits. Currently, bill has 6 cosponsors. In 2016, NAGE supported similar legislation introduced by Senator Schatz which would grant federal employees a 5.3 percent raise.

Representative Gerry Connolly (D-VA), has also introduced similar legislation (H.R. 757) in the House and it currently has 29 cosponsors. The FAIR Act follows a 2.1 percent raise granted to federal employees in 2017 by President Obama.

“It is time for Congress to step up and pay civil servants what they deserve. I thank Senators Schatz and Brown and Representative Connolly for taking the initiative to get this done”, said NAGE National President David J. Holway as he praised the pieces of legislation. “Federal employees are paid on average 34 percent less than private sector employees. In order to recruit and retain a top notch workforce, it is imperative that federal employees earn the same as their private sector colleagues”, he said. NAGE/IBPO believes our members should be paid more for their hard work and are fighting every day to ensure that well deserved pay increases are given.

NAGE/IBPO needs YOU to contact your senator and representative and urge them to vote YES to the 2017 FAIR Act. Federal employees are overdue for a reasonable raise and a 3.2% raise is a modest increase that will help hard working Americans get ahead.
