Bed Bugs Spotted in the MITC Building in Chelsea

MITC Employees and NAGE Members:
As you may know, a dead bed bug was found on Tuesday on the fourth floor DOR office in the MITC Building in Chelsea.  It is the fourth incident in the past year involving bed bugs at the facility.  SEIU/NAGE has been involved every step of the way in this matter.

We have already taken several actions regarding the bed bug situation at the MITC Building:

•             Demanded copies of all testing and inspection reports
•             Filed a class action grievance to receive time back for sick time lost for involved DOR employees; we received a settlement for all involved to restore one day's time
•             Been in contact with DPH and DCAMM regarding the protocols they have followed and requested they take appropriate measures to ensure the health and safety of our members
We were informed of Tuesday's incident on Thursday morning. A complete cleaning and inspection had been completed by Tuesday evening. Because this was the fourth bed bug incident in a year, SEIU/NAGE has requested the building undergo an additional inspection, testing and cleaning by a different pest control company--not the company that has been used in the last three incidents
We hope that this will be addressed quickly and will provide us with an independent opinion on whether more needs to be done going forward.  We will keep you posted when we receive a response.
