NAGE Local R14-139 Awarded Plaque of Appreciation for Donation to Police Department

On Thursday, April 20, 2017, NAGE Local R14-139, EDP Enterprises, in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, was presented with a plaque of appreciation by Mayor Luge Hardman, Chief of Police Lt. Daniel Cordova, and retired Assistant Chief of Police Clarence Liberty, at the Waynesville City Council Meeting for its generous donation of $2,000 for ballistics vests for police dogs at the Waynesville Police Department.

In February 2017, after hearing of the growing threats towards the K-9s on the Waynesville PD narcotics/explosives task force, the Local Executive Board along with its members unanimously vote to purchase two ballistic vests for the police dogs. “Our local is passionate about supporting our police officers and other emergency response personnel,” said Robert Richards, President, NAGE Local R14-139. “We believe that it is our responsibility to actively participate in making the lives of those we come in contact with better,” he said. “Our local is challenging this community to join us in getting involved” he added.

Local R14-139 is no stranger to giving back to their community. Over the past two years, the local has donated more than $40,000 to charitable organizations including, Shop with a Cop, Meals on Wheels, a battered women’s shelter, and several churches who are known to provide meals to the veterans, homeless, and others in need during the holiday season. Local R14-139 has also made donations to 12 different schools for various “snack in a pack” programs. Finally, over the past two years, the Local has provided turkeys to its local members and homeless veterans for Thanksgiving.

President Richards said, “We need to be more than an organization that advocates for members. Yes that is our purpose, however, we are so much more than just that.” He stated, “We are NAGE, we make everything we involve ourselves in better.”
